Kevin Hartmight have been the guest of honor at Netflix’sRoast of Kevin Hartthis weekend, butShane GillisandChelsea Handlerhad plenty of things to say about each other when they took the stage.
Gillis, the host of the evening, introduced Handler to the stage by exposing her for having dinner withJeffrey Epsteinin 2010, after the registered sex offenderserved time in prisonfor procuring a minor for prostitution in 2008.
TheTiresstar did not hold back as he laid into Handler. “Chelsea is a Zionist. I’m not saying that’s good or bad. Speaking of dead kids, she’s a big fan of abortions. Chelsea’s been scraped more times than the grill at Benihana,” he began.
He continued, “Speaking of tossing tiny shrimp into a child’s mouth, Chelsea Handler went to dinner at Jeffrey Epstein’s house in 2010.”
Gillis called it “a fun” joke and told viewers, “You can look it up, there’s articles. It wasn’t like a big party, it was like seven people there. Prince Andrew and Woody Allen were there.”
According to theBBC, Handler did attend a dinner party in Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse that Prince Andrew described as “a small dinner party.” Emails reveal Prince Andrew and Allen were in attendance, as were Handler, Allen’s wife Soon-Yi, Katie Couric, George Stephanopoulos and Charlie Rose.
Handler publicly addressed this in 2021 during an appearance on Rob Lowe’sLiterally! With Rob Lowepodcast. She claimed she “didn’t know who Jeffrey Epstein was” and described the dinner as being “so awkward and so weird.”
During the roast, Handler didn’t acknowledge Gillis’ Epstein joke. But she did make sure to take a shot at him for being fired fromSaturday Night Livefor using using anti-Asian slurs. “Shane, just so you know Judaism and Zionism are two different things,” she said. “Kind of like how Chinatown and Koreatown are two different things, but your favorite slur works in both places.”
Handler continued, “Shane has been accused of being anti-Asian which is ironic, considering he has the complexion and physique of a steamed dumpling.” That joke earned a laugh from Gillis.
Several of the biggest names in comedy who united for the Netflix Is A Joke Fest in Los Angeles to roast each other – and the event did not shy away from politics. Handler brutally roastedTony Hinchcliffe, who has faced backlash for aligning himself with the Trump administration, saying he is “what happens when women don’t have access to abortion care.”
She also called out some of the comedians in attendance who performed at the Riyadh Comedy Festival despite Saudi Arabia’s record of human rights violations, including Hart,Pete DavidsonandJeff Ross.
“Now that your favorite leader is making the draft mandatory,” Handler said. “I assume that all of you will be signing up to go fight the war in Iran. Or do you tough-talking p—ies only go to the Middle East for comedy festivals?”
