Reps. Marianna Anaya, left, and Andrea Romero listen while family members of Jeffrey Epstein victim Virginia Roberts Giuffre speak during a June 1 legislative "truth commission" hearing at the state Capitol.
A Democrat on the bipartisan New Mexico commission investigating Jeffrey Epstein has alleged Republican members are leaking what she says is privileged information about people who could face questioning by the panel’s legal team.
State Rep. Marianna Anaya, one of the two Democrats on the four-person “truth commission,” also argues the GOP members are harming the panel’s credibility for political points.
One of the Republican members, state Rep. Andrea Reeb of Clovis, denied leaking anything but said the panel plans to depose Democratic gubernatorial candidate Deb Haaland and U.S. Rep. Melanie Stansbury.
Anaya said she was surprised to come across a social mediavideothis week by conservative influencer Elias Sisneros, who said “sources inside the Roundhouse” told him Haaland and Stansbury are on the subpoena list.
“It came to my attention because I was scrolling social media that there was attorney-client privileged information that was leaked to a right-wing social media blogger,” Anaya said.
It’s her understanding all four commissioners signed off on the deposition list, she said, and the legal team expressly asked them not to share it.
Joshua Conaway, an attorney for the truth commission, declined to comment Thursday, directing questions to the House communications staff.
A spokesperson for House Republicans didn’t respond to a question about who had access to the list.
Truth commission members are the only people who received the list, Anaya said, adding she suspects Reeb and Rep. Bill Hall of Aztec, the other Republican member, were in some way responsible for the leak.
“They were the only two Republicans who got that information,” Anaya said.
She and the commission’s chair, Rep. Andrea Romero, D-Santa Fe, did not share the list with anyone, Anaya said.
