Kyrie Irving reacts to Donald Trump calling Epstein files "pretty boring stuff"

Kyrie Irvinghas never been a stranger to speaking on controversial topics. This time, the Dallas Mavericks star reacted to Donald Trump’seyebrow-raising remarksabout the Epstein files — the U.S. president described them as “pretty boring stuff,” adding that only “bad people” and “fake news” are interested in the topic being discussed publicly.

Irving didn’t say much. In fact, he only used an emoji. But it was still enough to get his message across.

Irving has built a reputation as one of the league’s most outspoken and unpredictable stars. And often he would get himself into trouble for it.

In 2022, Irving promoted a film containing antisemitic material on social media. After initially refusing to apologize, he was suspended by the Brooklyn Nets for at least five games. He faced heavy criticism from the NBA, media and advocacy groups.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Irving’s refusal to comply with New York City’s vaccine mandate led to his ban from playing home games at Barclays Center. Although Irving described his decision as a personal choice, it became a national talking point and a constant distraction for the team.

Earlier in his career, Irving also drew ridicule for publicly entertaining flat-earth theories.

But over the last few years — especially since being traded to Dallas — he’s been solely focused on the game, rebuilding his image and re-establishing his credibility as someone people may once again take seriously when he speaks on matters beyond the game.

That’s why his reaction toTrumpresonated so quickly. But it wasn’t his only activity on X today.

Irving shared a cryptic message, likely referencing Iran-US-Israel war tensions. This time, he used more than an emoji.

He also posted several more tweets addressing the same topic.

NBA players speak up. Whether people like it or not, most of them use their platforms to address topics that have nothing to do with basketball. And their words — or even emojis — have impact.

For many, the Epstein files represent accountability, transparency and unanswered questions involving powerful figures. They’re not “boring.” They don’t only interest “bad people” or fake news outlets. They matter to millions of people in America and around the world who still want answers.

Trump may have tried to minimize their importance. But Irving’s reaction will help keep the conversation going.

In the meantime, he will continue to focus on basketball after sitting out the entire 2025-26 season due to the ACL tear he suffered last year. But he has a lot to look forward to.
