WASHINGTON — A gigantic marble throne fit with a golden toilet appeared across from the Lincoln Memorial Monday in the latest installation from the Secret Handshake.
The group is behind several popular protest statues that have appeared on the National Mall over the past six months, most notably one dubbed the"Trump-Epstein friendship statue"that depicted President Donald Trump and the late disgraced financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein holding hands and skipping.
Going up two days after No Kings Day protests brought thousands to the National Mall to protest Trump and his administration, this newest installation is titled "A THRONE FIT FOR A KING."
A plaque on the side of the giant marble and gold throne says, "In a time of unprecedented division, escalating conflict, and economic turmoil, President Trump focused on what truly mattered: remodeling the Lincoln Bathroom in the White House. This, his crowning achievement, is a bold reminder that the President isn’t just a businessman, he’s taking care of business. It stands as a tribute to an unwavering visionary who looked down, saw a problem, and painted it gold."
The golden toilet went up less than a month after the organization's last installation on the National Mall. At the beginning of March, the group put up a statue depictingTrump and Epstein as Jack and Rosein an iconic "Titanic" scene. Alongside the statue, there were 10 giant banners of the pair, for what Secret Handshake called Trump's "banner year." Since his inauguration, massive banners of Trump's face have been placed on several federal buildings across the District.
Secret Handshake's Trump-Epstein friendship statue gained prominence when it went up in September and was subsequently hauled off in the middle of the night by U.S. Park Police for an alleged permit violation just one day later. A week later it reappeared andstayed up for another four days. The group was also behind a signable10-foot-tall birthday cardthat appeared on the Mall in January with the message and sketch Trump allegedly sent to Epstein, just in time for Epstein's birthday.
