Former New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas has alleged that the federal government did not fulfill its part of a 2019 agreement concerning the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein's possible crimes in the state.
In a letter to current Attorney General Raúl Torrez, Balderas said New Mexico was in the process of interviewing victims tied to Epstein's Zorro Ranch when an agreement was made with the Southern District of New York.
Balderas stated that under the agreement, New Mexico would stop all interviews and turn over its evidence to federal prosecutors. In return, the federal government was to later provide New Mexico-related evidence back to state investigators.
Balderas said, "The state upheld its end of the deal, but the federal government did not."
Attorney General Raul Torrez is now demanding full access to the federal records related to the case.
